A Quail Hollow Thanksgiving 2011

A Thanksgiving Table

Usually in our family, we trade years with each side of the family for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  This year was the Sullivan year.  However, with all my siblings living far away and a storm forecasted for Thanksgiving weekend, it ended up being just our own family for dinner.  Arica and Celeste offered to help bring salad, rolls and sweet potatoes.  Helen and Glayd decided to join us as well, and Helen made pecan, pumpkin and blueberry pies….Yummm.   The turkey was coated in honey and herbs, the stuffing (made especially with Jason in mind….he didn’t even taste it) had sausage, apples and carrots and the potatoes were flavored with cloves of fresh garlic whipped to perfection by Glayd.  The house had a flavorful aroma and if I had my way, we would have had Christmas music floating in the air mingled with the flavors of a bountiful “thanks” giving.

A trip to see the Allens in California afforded me some time to shop and my purchase there gave us a tablecloth that proved to be exceptionally beautiful this year.  The rich colors of the harvest graced our table along with gorgeous flowers that reminded us of the passing summer.   We have been blessed in so many ways this year, but my personal favorite blessing is to be able to be close to family and enjoy their fine company…..family and friends….a great combination!

Trevor, Helen and Nathan relaxing for the day.

Kate and Ali took a nap which afforded Celeste and Erik a meal uninterrupted by children’s demands and we ate too much as usual.  Then off into the wide blue yonder soared Jason and Erik.  Those two went for an airplane ride.  We all waited for the “buzzing” of the house and ran outside to wave at the tail of the plane as they zoomed over and out of sight….Kate knew exacting who was in the sky…no, not Santa…but Daddy is who she looks for in his plane or wing.  A big “thank you” to everyone for helping clean up the messy dishes….of course, the clean-up crew was spearheaded by Helen.

Garrett eating his Banana Creme pie...

Paul and Jill Mortenson joined us for pie when the our food had settled and evening had officially begun.  Jill made a delicious Banana Cream pie.  Garrett found himself a chair and helped himself to some “dip”.  Whipping cream appears to be his favorite thing to dip his finger in for a tasty bite.  It was nice to have them join us….next time, they can come for dinner as well.

All in all, it seemed to be a very relaxed day.  We have many blessings to be thankful for……

Children

Healthy bodies
Jobs

But mostly, a testimony that our Heavenly Father knows who we are, loves us, and cares about us.  May we extend His Grace and Love to those around us every day!
